Matt Ciambriello, Old Bridge

This past fall the Junior from Old Bridge had a breakout season surpassing many people's expectations. He won the GMC title in 15:56, tying his schools course record. He then went on to finish 2nd in the Group IV Meet in another school record of 15:59. At the State Meet of Champions he finished 11th in 16:05 making him the 3rd best returnee for next year. We caught up with Matt just a little after XC ended to see what he had to say on a fine season.

GMCrunning: So what kind of summer training did you do to get ready for XC?
MC: Well compared to last year, I really cracked down on my summer training, I took my summer training pretty seriously, and made sure to get a nice base in.
GMCrunning: What was your weekly mileage like?
MC: Nothing crazy. Not like Massam
GMCrunning: How did you feel about being the only returnee from last year's varsity team?
MC: Well I am glad I was able to be apart of the 2004 squad, and I'm also glad to be apart of this years squad, but on the fact of me being the only returnee, I didn't really have many feeling about it, I just knew I had to help the younger guys out a lot
GMCrunning: Did you have any goals for XC season?
MC: Yes
GMCrunning: What were they?
MC: To have the team go undefeated, to have the team put down some good times considering we were very young, and for us to win counties
GMCrunning: what was the highlight of your season?
MC: Team?
GMCrunning: team and individual.
MC: Team wise, probably in general how a lot of the younger guys stepped up with no experience on varsity and individually, it had to be breaking 16 at Holmdel
GMCrunning: Did expect to have the breakout season you had?
MC: Yes and no, I knew I should of had a fairly decent season after the way I ran during spring track, I just knew I had to train hard to get it
GMCrunning: what are you expectations for indoor?
MC: Well I hope we can win Groups like we did in the spring
GMCrunning: What kind of stuff do you like doing when your not running
MC: Listening to music, just hanging out with my friends, or going places to eat wit them
GMCRunning: Well Thanks Matt taking time to talk with us and Good Luck the rest of this year
